After three years of renovation, beginning in the summer of 2008, LMHS is finalizing the construction process with the completion of the parking lot.

LM started by tearing down the old school, continued with the construction of the new school, and is now finishing the restoration of the Administration Building. With the constant sound of drilling and hammering, and the view of massive machines seen from the windows of our school, it has been hard for both the faculty and the students; specifically, it has come to the student body’s attention that the “Parking Spot Lottery” will be delayed for another month.

“It just stinks,” said senior Elsa Schieffelin. “Now we have to wait another whole month to get our parking spots.”

The delay of the parking lot lottery is primarily due to the current construction at LM. Because of the restoration of the Administration building, the construction workers are using the parking lot behind this building. Since this parking lot is still being used for construction, student parking is limited, hence the delay in the lottery tickets. However, once the finishing touches are put into action, and the construction is ceased. Forty-five new parking spots will be available for student use.

The student parking system works like this: a student must submit their valid license, and their name will be put into a bucket. Then there is a lottery, and when a student is chosen, they will be permitted to park at LM; however, in order to access this system you must be a senior at LM.

“As soon as our old school is refurbished, and that whole master plan of construction is finished, the kids will have their parking,” said Assistant Principal Scott Kilpatrick.

According to Kilpatrick, as soon as the construction is finished, the paring lot currently being used for construction will once again be open to the students. Throughout the course of a the school year LM holds several lotteries to determine which seniors will obtain the right to park at LM, and because of the new parking lot’s opening, more students will have the chance to win a lottery ticket. Students and staff alike are very excited for the final touches on construction.

Kilpatrick estimates that by January the lot will be cleared and the lottery will commence.

“Just be patient, looking at January, we promise the students will be given parking,” said Kilpatrick.
